Polyethylene or Polypropylene? Now with ecologically crafted plastics and advanced chemical advancements, plastic is once more a wise, green choice for many.

Poly-Ethylene is available in low or high density. LDPE (low density polyethylene) is naturally translucent but can be pigmented in any opaque or translucent color. Durable and flexible, it is resistant to tears and damage. Both moisture- and static-resistant, LDPE has a smooth, shiny appearance favored by many. HDPE (high density polyethylene) is more rigid than LDPE and has a natural, frosted appearance. Like LDPE, it can be tinted to be any frosted color or opaque color. Prime Line Packaging makes most of our plastic bags with polyethylene which is both affordable and attractive.

Poly-Propylene is naturally crystal clear, but can also be tinted to be translucent or opaque. With a stronger surface, polypropylene is scratch-resistant and chemical-resistant, making it a good option for the food industry. We also offer custom blended plastics, thick-thin bags and co-extruded films for customers wanting to achieve a unique look, feel or function.

Whether you choose polyethylene or polypropylene, you should consider using the EPI additive. Prime Line is proud to be EPI certified and uses TDPA® (or Totally Degradable Plastic Additive) to make polybags degradable. There is no need to fear the ecological impact of the plastic bag, if they are properly constructed and disposed of. With the door to plastics open once again, we can enjoy the advantages of plastic bags used as transport and packaging, including the following reasons:

  • They are inexpensive to manufacture and use
  • They are exceedingly durable, even when treated with TDPA®
  • They can be recycled, reused or decomposed
  • They can be extruded in an specific PMS color, matching your brand and logo exactly
  • Prints transfer beautifully onto plastic bags
  • They can be constructed in a variety of shapes and styles, including t-shirt bags, die cut, and with a multitude of common handles (soft strap, folded strap, patch, and rope handle shoppers)
  • Plastic bags are lighter weight than paper bags which saves on freight costs

Prime Line Packaging regularly uses polyethylene, polypropylene, and TDPA® (Totally Degradable Plastic Additives.) We would be happy to explain more about the additive process or investigate which plastic is right for your needs. Contact us today to discuss your plastic needs.
