In an attempt to restrict the use on disposable shopping bags, some big cities imposed a bag fee on single use plastic bags.  Yesterday, New York City passed a ban which will require retailers to charge and keep $.05 per shopping bag on both paper and plastic.

This will to go into effect on October 1 and will exclude restaurants, wine shops, prescription medications as well as those who use food stamps.
