Polypropylene non-woven (PPNW) bags are a solid choice from anything from totes to shopping bags. We are further excited to offer a new additive to our PPNW bags-an organic additive which helps speed up the biodegradable nature of the product.

The specialty additive we use coats the surface of your PPNW product, thus allowing microbes present in microbe-rich environments like a landfill, access to the tight, near-impenetrable molecular structure of the polypropylene. The chemical and biological process isn’t activated until the product is introduced to a biologically active landfill. One of the byproducts of the biodegradation process, methane (a bio-gas), can be used to generate energy. In many advanced landfills methane is collected and converted to energy.

Yet, with these upgrades to the chemical structure, the integrity of the PPNW remains. It is still a quality, durable material to use in tote bags, shoppers, handled bags, and t-shirt bags. It can be laminated, printed, and color matched to your logo exactly. Side by side, you will never know which product has been treated and which has not.

Benefits of Degradable PPNW Bags

Deciding to modify your PPNW into a biodegradable product is a simple decision, which can be accomplished by introducing the additive to the production process. Nothing else needs to be done. It is a simple one-step process. But the benefits are numerous:

  • The non-starch based additive is 100% organic
  • Testing has shown methane off-gassing, which creates more energy if captured
  • Biodegradation is ideal for plastics, which routinely heads to landfills (up to 90% of plastics)
  • National and major brands expect biodegradability
  • The cost is low but the benefit is high

The additive Prime Line Printing uses in our PPNW fabric has been scientifically analyzed by 3rd party independent labs, passing the biodegrading testing (ASTM5511), physical testing and mechanical testing. You can be assured your PPNW packaging is strong and durable during its sustained use, while still be confident of its biodegradability when it is finally disposed of.
